Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend
If you are a fan of Disney and fitness, you don’t want to miss this year’s Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. This four day event takes place during January 8-12, 2020 and includes a variety of races for the whole family. Even if you aren’t participating in the races, you can still join in the festivities at the free runDisney Health & Fitness Expo. What makes runDisney events unique?
A runDisney race is much more than just a run, it’s an experience. The courses take you through the Walt Disney World theme parks, with Disney characters cheering you on along the way. Participants are encourage to dress up and it is not uncommon to see runner in tutus, fairy wings, and mouse ears. Because they are so unique, runDisney races fill up quickly. Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Events and Challenges
Although it’s called a marathon weekend, there are several events to choose from so you can participate, regardless of your skill level. All events include a commemorative medal for finishers. If you really want to push yourself, sign up for one of the challenges.
Races
- January 9: Walt Disney World 5k
- January 10: Walt Disney World 10k
- January 11: Walt Disney World Half Marathon
- January 11: runDisney Kids Dashes
- January 11: runDisney Kids One Mile Run
- January 12: Walt Disney World Marathon
Challenges
- Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge
Run Saturday’s half marathon and Sunday’s marathon to complete this challenge. You’ll receive medals for both, as well as the Goofy Medal.
- Dopey Challenge
Run all four races and you’ll receive 6 medals to take home – a medal from each race plus the Goofy Medal and the Dopey Medal.
- Disney Castaway Cay Challenge
This challenge includes a bit of extra traveling. Complete one race during marathon weekend, then hop aboard the Disney Dream to cruise to the Bahamas. There, you’ll participate in another 5k on Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line’s private island.
Expo
In addition to the races, the Walt Disney World Marathon also hosts the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo. This expo is free and open to the public. It features official runDisney event merchandise as well as vendor booths with everything from running gear to nutrition and even fitness technology. You can shop for Disney-themed fitness apparel. An interactive zone will feature free yoga as well as other complimentary informative sessions.
