Top 5 Movie-themed Haunted Houses at Halloween Horror Nights
Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights is a widely popular event.
Over the past three decades, it’s become known for richly detailed and immersive haunted houses that fright and delight parkgoers. The annual event has been named “Best Halloween Event” a dozen times by Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket Awards.
Through the years, the creative minds at Universal Orlando have thrilled guests with haunted houses based on beloved horror franchises.
Here is a look at five of the top movie and TV-themed houses that have appeared at HHN over the years.
We’re also giving you a sneak peek of Halloween Horror Nights 31.
5 Best Movie and TV-Themed HHN Haunted Houses
Universal obtains the rights to incorporate movies and series into their haunted houses. This gives the theme park an advantage over its competition. Indeed, one of the highlights of Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando is immersing yourself in some of your favorite horror movies. These five former HHN themes haunt us to this day:
1. The Shining
Based on the Stanley Kubrick film adaptation of the Stephen King thriller, The Shining house appeared at Halloween Horror Nights 27. Guests stepped into the Overlook Hotel, where a demented Jack Torrance was ready with his handy ax and crooked smile.
2. Poltergeist
During HHN 28, the Poltergeist house sent guests to another dimension with ghosts and scares straight from the nightmarish classic.
3. Beetlejuice
HHN 30 provided a nostalgic walk through the 1988 Tim Burton film. Guests traveled through the movie’s finest moments, from calypso dancing in the dining room to Beetlejuice and Lydia’s nuptials. Beetlejuice was a lighthearted house that provided jump scares, laughs, and a giant sandworm.
4. Ghostbusters
The Ghostbusters house appeared at the HHN 29 event. This house added a touch of nostalgia to HHN and brought iconic scenes from the film to life. Highlights included the haunted library, Slimer’s haunted hotel floor, and the climax featuring the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man lumbering down a New York street.
5. Stranger Things
Hit Netflix series Stranger Things first inspired a haunted house at Halloween Horror Nights 28. It was so popular that seasons two and three were represented at HHN 29. Both houses led guests through Hawkins, Indiana and the Upside Down, with a Demogorgon following close behind.
