Sunshine Volleyball Classic
This summer, volleyball teams across the Southeast region will visit Orlando to compete in the Sunshine Volleyball Classic. Held at the Orange County Convention Center, the Sunshine State Volleyball Classic is one of sixteen National Qualifier tournaments across the country sanctioned by the USA Volleyball National Office. The main goal of these National Qualifiers is to provide a high-level competitive tournament experience that is then used to select teams from various age groups to compete at the Girls’ Junior National Championships (GJNC).
National Qualifier Process
In addition to selecting teams for the National Championships, the National Qualifiers also promote inter-regional play, serve as a showcase of talent for collegiate recruiters and other development programs, and provide volleyball officials a valuable training opportunity. The National Qualifiers’ locations are specifically chosen to cover certain regions, so that most teams in the country are within an 8 hour drive of at least one National Qualifier. The number of GJNC bids awarded at each National Qualifier varies based on age group, division, and the overall number of teams in the tournament, but each National Qualifier is generally allowed to award up to three bids based on the results of the tournament.
Girls’ Junior National Championships (June 27-July 6)
The Girls’ Junior National Championships are one of three signature USA Volleyball events, joining the Boys’ Junior National Championships in Dallas, Texas and the Open National Championships in Columbus, Ohio. 2019 marks the 40th year of the GJNC, which looks to bring more than 1,200 teams, 12,000 athletes, and 25,000 fans to Indianapolis, Indiana to decide 26 titles across seven age groups (from 11-and-under to 17-and-under) and five divisions. Indianapolis and the GJNC have history: the city has hosted the tournament multiple times, as recently as 2016.
