Orlando on the Fast Track
You would think that by living in Orlando I have done everything there is to do. Yes, I have visited the theme parks, nearby beaches, and ate at local favorite restaurants. Yet I realize there are things I have never really explored, so I set out to do the little things that are sometimes overshadowed by Orlando’s huge touristy attractions.
I-Drive NASCAR Indoor Kart Racing was the first activity a group of friends and I tried. It’s about a mile from the Orlando International Premium Outlets and right on International Drive. Once you walk in, you can hear the karts racing on the track. It is a fun atmosphere for any age and I highly recommend it. My friends and I were excited since we have never done anything like this before. Preparation for racing includes creating a racer badge with your picture and receiving a time and heat number. While you wait for your turn to race, you can hang out in a huge game, bar, and grille area and munch on snack from a great menu with different options.
When we were called up to race, we were briefed about track rules and safety then lead into a dressing room to don our gear. Free lockers are provided. They then assign you a kart so they can keep track of your race times. Finally the race begins! The karts go about 45 mph and you feel it. My friends and I are competitive, so I imagined I was at Daytona International racing in a live NASCAR event. After the race, you go back in the dressing room to take off your gear and see the final results.
The staff is friendly and answers any of your questions. The general manager, Andres, has a great personality, so if you see him around make sure to say hi. He makes sure everyone has a great time and that they leave happy. The differently-priced racing packages fit an array of budgets. This is a great place to host a birthday party or even a company event. They even have a Florida resident discount, which is amazing! Spectators can watch the races from anywhere in the building and cheer on friends or family.
