Although Orlando is most famous for its theme park attractions at Disney and Universal, the heart of The City Beautiful can be found downtown at Lake Eola. The lake and its surrounding park are beautiful on any given day, but the area really shines as a central gathering point for the entire city during holiday celebrations and special occasions. Lake Eola hosts several events during the year, including a weekly farmers market, the semi-annual Fiesta in the Park, and, of course, the annual Fireworks at the Fountain July 4th celebration.
Celebrate July 4th at Lake Eola
Lake Eola’s Independence Day festivities draw a crowd of thousands each year, as locals and visitors alike descend on the park for an evening of revelry second only to New Year’s Eve in Orlando. The family-friendly fun starts at 4:00 p.m. on July 4 and includes live music, a large children’s play area, and food and drink from several of the most popular local vendors. The fireworks begin around 9:30 p.m. and the event concludes shortly thereafter at 10:00 p.m.
Local Tip for Viewing the Fireworks
The fireworks show is brilliant no matter where you view it, but the high-rise buildings near the park provide ample opportunity for a brand new experience. Visit one of the rooftop bars and lounges in the area and you’ll be rewarded with a unique perspective on the entire spectacle. It’s not every day that you get the chance to watch a fireworks show happen at eye level!
