February Movie Releases
Looking to take a break from the theme parks and do something a bit more low-key? February may not be a month for major blockbuster movie releases, but you could certainly take a Valentine’s Day date to go see one of the rom-coms with an all-star cast. If you’ve got the kids with you, there are a few animated, PG-rated options to check out as well.
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part
8 February 2019 | NR (likely to be PG)
Five years after the original Lego Movie, the star-studded cast returns for a new animated journey, fighting off a LEGO DUPLO ® space invasion to defend their world. This cast cannot be understated—Margot Robbie, Jonah Hill, Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum, and Elizabeth Banks are all back to make this movie just as good as the first (certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 96% Tomatometer rating).
What Men Want
8 February 2019 | NR (likely to be PG-13 or R)
Taraji P. Henson stars as a businesswoman in a male-dominated company, who is working hard to move up the ranks and become a partner at the firm. Frustrated by her lack of progress, she visits a psychic, and wakes up the next morning with the ability to read the minds of men around her.
Alita: Battle Angel
14 February 2019 | NR (likely to be PG-13)
Back in the late 2000s, James Cameron had to choose between two scripts to bring to life: one was Avatar, the 2009 movie that went on to become the highest-grossing film of all time; the other was Alita: Battle Angel, a script that he ended up giving to his friend Robert Rodriguez to finish writing and eventually direct. Alita is a cyborg who has no memory of her past when she is discovered and awoken by the enigmatic Dr. Ido. The story revolves around her thrilling adventure to learn who she is and to change the world in the process.
Isn’t It Romantic
14 February 2019 | PG-13
Isn’t It Romantic looks to be slightly more than just your standard romantic comedy experience. It tells the meta story of a woman (Rebel Wilson) who wakes up to find herself stuck in a rom-com after being unhappy with her love life. She then goes on to try to avoid and break free from the clichés of the genre. A romantic comedy wouldn’t be complete without a love triangle, and the film taps Liam Hemsworth and Adam Devine to play the main character’s two love interests.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
22 February 2019 | PG
The third installment in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise takes place in the future, where new dangers threaten the peace that an older Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and Toothless have created between dragons and humans. Once again, they are forced to work together to keep the peace between the two species and their harmonious village.
