Family-Friendly Holiday Events in Central Florida
While Orlando’s theme parks are arguably a huge draw during the holidays, they can be an expensive luxury that most families can’t afford to enjoy. However, some savvy Orlando tourists have discovered ways to make the most out of their Christmas vacation without breaking the bank. To treat your family to an unforgettable and affordable Central Florida visit this holiday season, include some of the following holiday events into your itinerary.
31st Annual Light Up Clermont
Held December 6–7 just outside of Orlando, Clermont’s annual holiday tradition is free and open to the public. The festivities at Montrose and 7th Streets in downtown Clermont include a community tree-lighting ceremony, old-fashioned Christmas parade, family food trucks, and craft vendors. The celebration often concludes at the Clermont Arts and Recreation Center with an inspirational Lessons and Carols musical ceremony.
Polar Express Train Ride in Mount Dora
Running November 8–December 29, the Polar Express Train Ride is bringing magic to Mount Dora, Florida this holiday season. Based on the poplar Christmas film and children’s book, this real-life, one-hour train ride transports guests on a trip to meet Santa complete with hot chocolate, cookies, and a reading of Chris Van Allsburg’s classic story.
Now Snowing in Celebration
Experience a Floridian snowfall at Orlando’s longest-running snowing event. Now Snowing in Celebration is an annual tradition that takes place in the town of Celebration—a self-contained community originally developed by The Walt Disney Company. From November 30–December 31, Celebration’s Town Center comes alive with strolling Dickensian carolers, Santa visits, ice-skating, and four nightly snowfalls. With free entry and free parking, families can affordably enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, train rides, street performers, and light shows at the delightful wintry spectacle.
Light Up UCF
Located on UCF Campus in front of Addition Financial Arena, Light Up UCF invites guests to experience Orlando’s largest outdoor skating rink. The annual event, which takes place November 15–January 1, also treats visiting families to free festivities including a choreographed holiday light show and outdoor holiday film festival.
