What’s Behind the Wall at EPCOT?: World Celebration Gardens

If you’ve visited Walt Disney World Resort’s EPCOT anytime in the last five months, you’ve probably been anxiously waiting to find out what lies behind those construction walls.

The wait is over, and what’s inside is finally open for business. We’re talking about World Celebration Gardens, and over the last few years, Disney has been cooking up something fierce for its frequenters — let’s check it out!

What Is World Celebration Gardens?

Depending on how long you’ve been visiting the Disney parks, you may know this area as Future World. Future World has now become a thing of the past, and in its place is World Celebration Gardens.

Disney opened this new area of the park, Dreamers Point, on the late founder’s birthday, December 5, 2023. What accompanied this grand reveal was a shiny new statue of Disney himself titled “Walt the Dreamer.”

Serving as World Celebration’s main focal point, the statue depicts Disney wondering about the “Florida Project,” which we know today as Walt Disney World. You’ll find the famed founder sat on a bench with his hands interlocked, blissfully gazing at World Showcase with a smile on his face.

What’s in the Works

You may have thought those construction walls were part of EPCOT’s unique décor given that they have stood tall since 2019, but rest assured, big things were brewing behind them.

Countless changes to the park’s areas have been made. In October 2021, EPCOT’s France unveiled Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Le Crêperie de Paris. The summer of 2022 marked the debut of the thrilling Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ride. These attractions wasted no time becoming some of EPCOT’s biggest hits.

Still in the works are other aspects of World Celebration Gardens. Soon, a new exhibition space called CommuniCore Hall will be open to park goers. It will serve as an indoor hub meant for meet and greets, festival booths, and demonstration stations.

Right next door will be EPCOT’s festival hub, CommuniCore Plaza, which will feature an outdoor stage where visitors can watch live musical acts and performances.

Disney has yet to release all the details surrounding what’s coming to EPCOT, but you can expect these new additions to open sometime in 2024.
