Best Running Trails in Orlando
For many avid runners, vacation doesn’t mean you get to slack on your daily routine. Lucky for all types of runners, Orlando has plenty of trails for you to enjoy. Plus, it’ll also give you a free tour of the unique nature and points of interest in Central Florida. As always, remember to follow reasonable safety precautions and be aware of your surroundings at all times as several trails also allow cyclists.
Lake Eola
Located in the heart of downtown Orlando, this highly-trafficked .9 mile trail around Lake Eola is the perfect way to enjoy a workout while also exploring Orlando. Host to annual marathons such as the OUC Orlando Half Marathon and the IOA Corporate 5k, the area provides scenic views of the lake and iconic fountain, as well as beautiful swans that call Lake Eola home. Dogs are welcome on the trail, so if you and your pup both need some air, this trail is ideal. You can also enjoy the Orlando Farmers Market, held from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. every Sunday.
Orlando Urban Trail
If you are looking for a way to explore Orlando’s charming downtown districts while also getting in a good workout, this is the trail for you. This three mile path begins in Ivanhoe Village, which is home to several unique boutiques, and ends at Mead Botanical Garden in Winter Park, just minutes from the Winter Park’s historic district. You’ll be sharing the trail with cyclists, so be aware of traffic on the trail.
Shingle Creek Regional Trail
One of Central Florida’s more ambitious projects, the inter-county Shingle Creek Regional Trail will span 32 miles between Kissimmee and Orlando when completed. Currently, you have the option to enjoy the northern section of the trail, a 6.5 trail which starts in southwest Orlando and ends at Eagle Nest Park, as well as the original section which begins in Osceola County near Steffee Landing and takes you to the Pioneer Village. You’re likely to encounter local birds and other wildlife on this more secluded boardwalk trail.
